Durst becomes the first official partner of The FESPA Found…

Qcells, one of the world’s leading clean energy companies, and Lumet, producer of ultrafine-line metallization systems, today announced that Qcells will become the world’s first PV solar company to deploy Lumet’s disruptive fine-line metallization technology for its PV solar cell lines. Qcells currently operates the largest solar module factory of its kind in the United States and has announced the largest investment in U.S. solar history to build a complete and sustainable solar supply chain in America. The explosive adoption of solar power around the world has been driven by society’s need to replace its dependence on fossil fuels with clean renewable energy. Today, solar is the fastest growing - and lowest cost - power source on the planet, a result of the industry’s relentless quest to enhance solar cell efficiency and lower production costs.  The single largest cost of solar cell production is the metallization step, in which conductive silver fingers (collectors) are screen-printed onto the cell’s surface. The industry has long sought to reduce finger width, in order to both decrease silver consumption (lower cost) and reduce light shading (increase efficiency). However, screen printing technologies have now plateaued at finger widths of about twenty microns and are thus unable to deliver the efficiency and cost improvements sought by the industry.  Lumet fine-line metallization technology, capable of producing even sub-ten-micron finger widths, will enable PV solar cell producers to now attain both higher cell efficiency and lower cost. “After lengthy evaluation and testing, Qcells has decided to adopt Lumet metallization technology for its future PV solar cell lines,” stated Dr. Danielle Merfeld, EVP and Global Chief Technology Officer at Qcells. “We see tremendous potential in the Lumet metallization technology, which is a breakthrough on multiple fronts, setting records for finest lines, lowest cost, highest efficiency, highest speed and smallest footprint. Moreover, with Qcells’ commitment to expanding our USA-based manufacturing, the low CAPEX and high automation level of the Lumet systems are very attractive. For all those reasons, we are thrilled that Qcells will be the first to introduce this technology to the market and we look forward to taking further steps to deepening our strategic partnership with Lumet.” Lumet Founder and Chairman, Benny Landa, added: “We are delighted to partner with Qcells and look forward to collaboratively bringing Lumet technology to the mass production PV solar market. Qcells has a rich history of pioneering and innovation. Not only is Qcells one of the world’s first solar pioneers, it was also the first to reach gigawatt-scale production - and to this day continues to be at the forefront of innovation, most recently with its introduction of LECO (Laser Enhanced Contact Optimization) technology. And now it is bringing the benefits of Lumet technology to the PV solar market - another first for Qcells! That’s very exciting news, both for us and for the PV solar industry!”   Dr. Merfeld concluded: “Innovation and clean energy technology are going to be critical to cutting global emissions and developing low cost, accessible, reliable energy for communities around the world. That’s our mission. Today, in partnership with Lumet, we are taking an important step towards reaching that goal.”  Lumet offers a breakthrough metallization technology for enhancing the efficiency and lowering the cost of PV solar cell production. By replacing silver pastes, screen printers and dryers, Lumet offers the industry’s simplest and lowest cost (CAPEX and OPEX) metallization technology. Moreover, at 10,000 cells per hour, Lumet is by far the industry’s highest speed PV metallization technology. With headquarters and R&D center in Israel, Lumet’s manufacturing operations are planned to be close to its customers in the United States and China.  Lumet is part of the Landa Group, one of Israel’s leading innovation enterprises. Other Landa Group companies include Landa Labs (the Group’s innovation center), Landa Digital Printing (digital commercial printing systems), Lusix (lab-grown diamonds) and NanoMetalix (digital printed electronics systems).

Durst becomes the first official partner of The FESPA Found…

The FESPA Foundation has announced Durst Group as its first official partner since FESPA Global Print Expo 2025. The company’s involvement will see it supporting the FESPA Foundation and sponsoring Malekapane Primary School. This partnership is a significant step forward in the FESPA Foundation’s mission to leverage the power of print to facilitate education and improve the lives of children in underserved communities. The ‘Adopt a School’ initiative, created by Neil Felton, CEO of FESPA, and overseen by Steve Thobela, FESPA Foundation’s Africa Coordinator, connects printing businesses with schools in dire need of resources, primarily in South Africa. Currently, the schools involved with the initiative are based in Limpopo, but the FEPSA Foundation plans to expand to Malawi, Kenya and Tanzania. The programme goes beyond the FESPA Foundation supplying printed educational materials; it also addresses critical needs, such as safe infrastructure, food security and basic facilities, such as clean and functional toilets. This is because the FESPA Foundation recognises that the impact of print is only maximised when the schools’ fundamental necessities are met. Commenting on Durst’s partnership with the FESPA Foundation and its commitment to sponsoring school, Neil Felton, CEO, FESPA, comments: “We are delighted to announce that Durst is the first organisation in our community to join our ‘Adopt a School’ initiative by partnering with Malekapane Primary School. We look forward to sharing the inspiring journey ahead, as both Durst and the school embark on this meaningful collaboration.” Steve Thobela adds: “We are incredibly excited to welcome Durst as our first official ‘Adopt a School’ partner. Durst’s support – specifically targetted to Malekapane Primary School – will allow us to create an environment where print can truly make a difference in inspiring and educating young minds. Ultimately, its commitment will directly impact the lives of the many children who attend Malekapane Primary School, helping to positively shape their lives in the future.” Christoph Gamper, CEO & Co-Owner of Durst Group, highlights: “We are truly honoured to be the first partner to step forward and also to take up the FESPA Foundation’s ‘Adopt a School’ initiative by sponsoring Malekapane Primary School. Supporting this project marks more than just a contribution to education — it symbolises the values that have shaped Durst over the past nine decades: innovation, responsibility and long-term impact. As we approach our 90th anniversary in 2026, we see this partnership as a meaningful way to give back and set the tone for the next chapter of Durst — one that continues to combine cutting-edge technology with real-world purpose.” The FESPA Foundation highlights three other schools in the Limpopo province – Batau Primary School, Pitseng ya Thuto Primary School and Madisei Primary School – as prospective beneficiaries of the ‘Adopt a School’ initiative. These schools grapple with issues ranging from dilapidated buildings and overcrowded classrooms, to a lack of fencing, unsafe sanitation and inadequate kitchen facilities. Durst’s involvement as the first official partner of the FESPA Foundation, and its commitment to sponsoring a school, sets a powerful precedent for other industry leaders to join the FESPA Foundation’s vital cause. The partnership with Durst will help the FEPA Foundation to: secure long-term sustainability for its projects; expand its global reach; and strengthen partnerships that go beyond one-off support.
